Miniplant-Scale Demonstration of Ethylene Adsorption Separation in Downstream of an Oxidative Coupling of Methane Process

Developing an efficient sorbent and adopting ethylene adsorption separation unit in downstream of oxidative coupling methane (OCM) process were the main focus present study. Since mole fraction generated OCM reactor outlet is relatively low, processing cost accompanying components thereby per ton using conventional cryogenic are insupportable. Zeolite 13X was modified this research, demonstrating outstanding capacity selectivity. The conducted experiments at a miniplant-scale enabled monitoring breakthrough times measuring sorbents’ under different operating pressures range 1–5 bar while feed flow compositions, representing attachment to parts process. zeolite showed superior performance than reference sorbents such as 4A activated carbon. Physical treatment 13X, by calcining it 550 °C, proved be increasing its capacity. Chemically treating via copper exchange on other side increased selectivity competition CO2 adsorption. In CO2-rich streams (with content 2.25 C2H4 content), Cu-exchanged promising 0.46 molC2H4·kgs–1 combined with 0.45 molC2H4·molCO2. CO2-free 2.75 C2H6 calcined secured highest 1.4 along 3.8 molC2H4·molC2H6 5 pressure. These indicate potentials developed designed for gas stream before after removal content.
